Our resident Everton supporters who are currently snacking on some roasted peanuts might have spilt them on the floor after reports indicated that the Merseyside club are eyeing up a move for two Anderlecht players.
HLN in Belgium claim that Everton sent scouts to watch Anderlecht during their 2-0 defeat to Gent, with a specific focus on Youri Tielemans and Dennis Praet.
However, reports suggest that representatives from a whole host of top European clubs, including the likes of Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, Wolfsburg and Borussia Monchengladbach, as well as Everton’s rivals Arsenal and Leicester, also attended the same game.
The Toffees are said to be developing a series interest in both Tielemans and Praet, who are aged 18 and 21 respectively.
Both are mainstays in the under-21 Belgium national side and are being touted for places with the senior squad for the upcoming European Championships.
Tielemans, the youngest ever Belgian to play in the Champions League, is considered to be one of the brightest young central midfielders in world football, whilst attacking midfielder Praet is an exciting prospect.
However, it is believed that any potential move would involve a considerable amount of money, with Anderlecht usually unwilling to allow their best young players to leave on the cheap.
Our landlord points out that current Everton and former Anderlecht man Romelu Lukaku could potentially have cost Chelsea as much £17 million including add-ons.
Yet Roberto Martinez may be willing to test the Belgian outfit’s resolve as he looks to acquire additional top young talent to add to his impressive project at Goodison Park.
