After the late drama on January transfer deadline day that witnessed the deal for long-term Everton target Leroy Fer collapse at the last minute, most in the Football Transfer Tavern assumed that would conclude the Toffee’s interest in the Dutchman.
However Danny Griffiths from Metro has arrived in the bar with news that the club are still chasing the Netherlands Under-21 midfielder and could reignite their interest if Marouane Fellaini departs Goodison Park this summer.
Fer, who currently features for FC Twente in the Eredivisie, still has a desire to play in the Premier League in the near future and would welcome any interest from the Merseyside club who of course are now managed by Roberto Martinez.
Fellaini has a well-publicised £24 million release clause that can be activated by any Champions League club and that could see him leaving for either Manchester United or Arsenal.
Fer maintains hope that the door will still be open for a move to the Toffees despite the departure of David Moyes to Old Trafford. He said: “I haven’t heard anything but I think Everton are still interested in me.
“I would like to go to the Premier League this summer, it’s a very nice competition but my focus has been the European Under-21 Championships, [now] we will see.
“Everton has done nothing wrong. I understand the choices that are made. During the second half of the season, they have always kept in touch with my agent. I’m still always open for a transfer to Everton.”
Will Everton land Leroy Fer at the second time of asking? Let us know your thoughts below.
