There are some interesting reports in the Football Transfer Tavern this morning as The Telegraph claim that Everton have joined the race for Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy.
The news has excited the few Toffees supporters enjoying an afternoon pint with the paper suggesting that Roberto Martinez has switched transfer targets after being told by Chelsea that it would cost £20 million to make Romelu Lukaku’s loan deal permanent.
Remy has been in excellent form at Newcastle United this season and that has reportedly attracted attention from the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham who are tracking the 27-year-old former Marseille striker.
However Everton are still in the chasing pack for Champions League qualification at the expense of Arsenal and that could make them a very attractive option for the Frenchman.
QPR will have to endure the lottery of the Championship play-offs to make a return to the top-flight and Remy will be sold in the summer whatever the circumstances.
While Martinez hasn’t given up all hope of landing the Belgian international, Chelsea would have to lower their current asking price which could make Remy, who has a £10.5 million buy-out clause in his contract at Loftus Road, a more likely option.
Would Remy really consider a switch to Everton over the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham? Let us know your thoughts below.
