Everton make initial contact regarding significant move, Allardyce wants a deal done in January – report

The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting big changes at Goodison Park over the coming months. The Toffees have really struggled this term, but with a new manager now in place, things will hopefully be looking up over the next few weeks. Sam Allardyce has a big job on his hands, but his prior experience would certainly seem to suggest that he will be more than capable of succeeding.

That being said, he also will recognise the size of the job at hand, and so it’s no real surprise that the Toffees are keen to spend in January, at least according to the Daily Mail. The Daily Mail also reports that Everton have made initial contact regarding a move for Arsenal attacker Theo Walcott, with the Toffees said to have enquired about his availability.

At this stage, a move for the Englishman remains some way off, but the prospect of his signing does suggest that Allardyce recognises the need for more firepower at Goodison Park. That’s certainly the case, given how much they have lacked goals this season. Former boss Ronald Koeman made a mistake in not replacing Romelu Lukaku efficiently enough, and he paid the ultimate price for his side’s poor performances as a result.

Walcott, with his years of experience and decent goalscoring record, would certainly fill somewhat of a gap for the Toffees, though Arsenal’s aren’t likely to be keen to sell for anything less than a significant fee.

Landlord’s Verdict

Theo Walcott has always been a solid performer, even if he is underrated by the Arsenal faithful. His pace and technique are very impressive to watch, and he’s clearly a massive threat going forward.

That’s exactly what Everton have lacked this season, and so if they can land him in January, it would go a long way to solving their major offensive problems.
