Everton have certainly found their rhythm in recent weeks, but there is no hiding the fact that things have come far too late in the season for it to make any real difference.
Marco Silva is going to have to make some changes to his squad in the summer and given that he has had a year at the club, he should have a clearer image in his head about what needs to be addressed at Goodison Park.
And, it appears his top priority is to keep one of his most influential figures at the club beyond the end of the summer.
What’s the News?
According to a report by the Liverpool Echo, Silva has told Everton that his number one priority of the upcoming transfer window is to retain Kurt Zouma.
The Chelsea loanee has been impressive for the Toffees this season and has become a key member of the defence since joining on the final day of last summer’s transfer window.
It is hardly surprising that Silva has made Zouma his main priority this summer as the France international has been crucial to the defence this season. The Toffees’ backline may have had its problems throughout the campaign, however, the Chelsea man has been a shining light.
He has been one of the Toffees’ best players throughout the campaign, and despite it being rather hit and miss for the club, it has been rather successful for the player as he is getting to play regular football once again and at a high standard.
It became abundantly clear extremely quickly about how important the 24-year-old would be at Goodison Park and losing him would feel like a real blow, although Everton may find that something difficult to avoid.
It would be naive to say that Chelsea would not have noticed how well he has been playing and could be prepared to give him another opportunity at Stamford Bridge next year, especially with David Luiz starting to approach retirement age.
Everton could have a real battle on their hands this summer and it might be one out of their hands.
