Everton could move to sign Lyon striker Moussa Dembele in January, that is according to a report from Football Insider.
The Toffees are thought to consider the former Celtic man as an option to solve their striker problem, having made a stuttering start to the 2019/20 Premier League campaign.
The report from Football Insider suggests that Everton have sent scouts to monitor Dembele this season, and have been impressed by the Frenchman who has scored six times in eight Ligue 1 appearances.
Having scored just six Premier League goals as a team this season, the Merseyside club have slumped into the relegation zone and clearly feel that they need more cutting edge up front.
Indeed, it is thought that they view Dembele as a viable option in the January transfer window, although they may have to pay £40 million to secure his signature as he is under contract at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais until the summer of 2023.
Since the Belgian moved on, the Toffees have tried the likes of Sandro Ramirez, Cenk Tosun, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and most recently Moise Kean up front. However, none of them have managed to score goals on a consistent basis, though the latter has only just arrived.
Still, having arrived as the club’s big-money signing from Juventus in the summer, but he has so far failed to score a single goal for his new club. Another expensive addition, Tosun also has no goals to his name so far this term, whilst Calvert-Lewin has just two in the Premier League.
With that in mind, signing Dembele would certainly add at least another recognised goalscorer to their ranks, given that he has scored 108 goals in just 230 career appearances, including 26 in 56 at Lyon (via Transfermarkt).
