Everton must consider former Real Madrid man to back-up Cenk Tosun

The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping to bring in a striker sooner rather than later in the January transfer window. The Toffees failed to replace Romelu Lukaku in the summer transfer window, although Wayne Rooney has found some form in front of goal. Sandro Ramirez has failed to make an impact at Goodison Park and he could be offloaded in January in favour of bringing in another striker.

Plenty of options are being explored by Sam Allardyce with rumours circulating suggesting he was keen on Olivier Giroud, Andy Carroll and Christian Benteke. But it looks like Everton are pressing ahead in their attempts to sign Cenk Tosun from Besiktas.

Tosun is scoring for fun in Turkey and could prove to be a shrewd addition but they should have a contingency plan if place while he settles in.

If the Tosun deal fails to materialise, Everton should turn their attention to free-scoring Lyon forward Mariano Diaz. Diaz only joined Lyon in the summer but he is already proving his goalscoring credentials in the French top division.

The once-capped Dominican Republic international has struck thirteen goals in nineteen games for Lyon in Ligue 1 this season, ranking him as the joint third top scorer in the league – ahead of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe!

The 24-year-old had previously been scoring for Real Madrid’s B team but failed to make the mark in the first team at the Santiago Bernabeu. With a point to prove since leaving the Spanish giants, Everton could benefit from the striker’s goals.

Diaz is certainly worth considering as a back-up option to Cenk Tosun.
