Everton must go-for-broke and splash the cash on ambitious swoop for £27m-rated star

Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern are glad the season has finally come to an end – our punters are hopeful things will turn around under a new manager.

Sam Allardyce was dismissed recently with the Toffees looking to take the club in a different direction. The ex-England boss steered the Blues away from the relegation zone but left fans disillusioned with their performances. After various fan protests, his position became untenable.

Former Watford manager Marco Silva is expected to take over the club, the man who was their first choice after sacking Ronald Koeman in November. The Portuguese has a massive job on his hands to revamp the squad after the Blues spent £140m last summer, but their signings failed to impress.

A priority for the new boss will be to find a long-term replacement for Leighton Baines who is approaching the end of his career and his performances are starting to decline. With Manchester City and Manchester United cooling their interest in Tottenham defender Danny Rose, Everton should take advantage and give the Englishman an escape route from North London.

Valued at £27m by Transfermarkt, he has found life difficult since returning from injury with Ben Davies keeping him out of the first team under Mauricio Pochettino. His best option may be to leave if he is to find first-team football. The 27-year-old remains one of the league’s top defenders and would be a huge signing for the Blues.

Whether they could convince him to move to Goodison Park remains the only stumbling block.

Everton fans, thoughts?
