Despite bringing in a host of signings over the summer, Everton could yet do a significant amount of business in January.
And one area the Toffees could look to strengthen is up front with manager Marco Silva no ruling anything out.
First-choice striker Cenk Tosun has really struggled in front of goal this season so far, and the possibility of Everton entering the transfer market for a new No.9 is one that cannot be ruled out with Silva leaving the door open for reinforcements in any department he feels needs strengthening to be brought in.
“The most important thing for us is to close our squad, produce strong work behind the scenes and improve what we have with our players,” Silva told the Liverpool Echo.
“In the next market, if we have the chance or the possibility to improve again, we are open to that and we will be clear again in our targets because that is my way to work.”
Ultimately, looking at Everton’s squad, Silva could do with the addition of another centre-forward — something that was clear back in the summer.
Even if Tosun was firing, there is not sufficient cover for him with neither Oumar Niasse or Dominic Calvert-Lewin being the most prolific of strikers.
With that in mind, the Toffees should definitely move to bring in a new No.9 when the transfer window reopens.
The arrival of a new frontman, however, does not have to spell the end for Tosun’s Goodison Park career. While scoring goals is currently proving to be a difficult task for him, the Turkey international is still getting into the right positions and showed enough signs last campaign to suggest he can still come good.
If the opportunity presents itself, Everton must bring in another forward. Tosun, though, can still prove to be useful to Silva.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
