Everton’s season has been a bad one so far and the Toffees will be putting themselves under pressure to go to Brighton and take three vital points today to ease the pressure on manager Ronald Koeman.
The Toffees have struggled to get going following a host of new signings and the sale of Romelu Lukaku, and the Merseysiders will need to start picking up results soon if they want any iota of success this year.
Our landlord here at the Tavern thinks a distinct lack of firepower up front is causing them problems, but he believes the solution might already lie in the squad in the form of England youngster Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
The striker, who has predominantly been used as a wide forward this year thus far, has looked exceptional at times when played right and has two assists to his name in the Premier League, while he’s also notched two goals in the League Cup.
However, with Sandro and Wayne Rooney struggling to fill the void as central striker, Calvert-Lewin could well be the solution Everton have been looking for in terms of a centre forward. The 20-year-old has all the attributes to play there, with impressive speed, height, and strength to his game as well as the fearlessness of a young footballer.
Everton could well turn to him if they want to turn results around this season, and he might just answer the call if Ronald Koeman requires him to do so.
