Everton offer Gretar Steinsson recruitment role alongside Marcel Brands

Everton could be about to make a backroom appointment that will see their recruitment process further improve.

The Toffees have already benefited from having Marcel Brands as their director of football, as he has helped to transform Marco Silva’s squad this summer.

The Dutchman managed to oversee the arrivals of the likes of Bernard, Richarlison, Andre Gomes, Yerry Mina and Lucas Digne, who have all improved the Goodison Park outfit’s chances of getting back to European football.

However, it appears as though the club are now believed to be looking to pair Brands up with someone who knows the English Football League extremely well.

According to a report by The Sun, Everton are thought to have offered Gretar Steinsson a recruitment role to join them from Fleetwood Town.

The 36-year-old, who played for a number of sides including Bolton Wanderers, is currently at the League One outfit as their technical director and has impressed onlookers.

Described as a ‘transfer guru’, Steinsson has knowledge of the European leagues as well as the lower English tiers, which Brands and Everton are keen to take advantage of.

The Verdict:

Bringing Steinsson to Goodison Park could be a shrewd move by Brands and Everton to help them improve in the future.

The Icelander’s knowledge of the Football League could prove to be valuable to the Toffees in the future and could see them pick up a number of talented players before any of their Premier League rivals become aware of them.

With the duo’s knowledge and ability to get transfers done, Everton could become a serious contender for European football on a consistent basis.
