Everton fans are rejoicing in the Football Transfer Tavern bar after news emerged the club are preparing to press on in the pursuit of a top flight defender to sure up their back line.
According to reports from Sky Sports, Ronald Koeman and Everton are readying a second bid for Swansea City defender Ashley Williams.
The Toffees recently had a bid of around £10m rejected for the defender, who featured prominently in Wales’ Euro 2016 journey where they managed to defeat Belgium 3-1 in the quarter finals.
Swansea City are looking to keep hold of their prized captain, who turns 32 later this month and is contracted to the club until at least 2018. Swans fans will no-doubt want to keep their star man away from the clutches of The Toffees for at least couple more seasons.
He has been linked with a transfer away from Wales in the past, with a move to Arsenal often touted as a potential destination. But so far nothing has materialised and Williams has stayed loyal to Swansea where he has played for over nine years, much to the delight of our friends across the border.
Sky Sports News HQ believe that the Swans could be tempted by an offer of around £15m, with Koeman already looking for a replacement for the outward-bound John Stones.
The Dutchman has already added former Aston Villa midfielder Idrissa Gueye to his ranks this week and will hope to wrap up a move for another player with bags of Premier League experience.
Swansea fans, is it time to let the big man go, or has he got a couple more seasons at the top left in him? Let us know in the comments below…
