Everton ready to hand long-term deal to 28-year-old

The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperately searching for some good news after a horrendous start to the season.

Although they remain threatened by relegation and have been forced to part ways with manager Ronald Koeman, Everton have finally received a bit of good news.

According to The Liverpool Echo, Everton caretaker manager David Unsworth has confirmed that Idrissa Gueye is close to signing a new deal.

The 46-cap Senegal international has been one of Everton’s better performers since his switch from Aston Villa in 2016.

The defensive midfielder is set to be rewarded with a new contract and he is likely to commit his long-term future to Goodison Park.

Formerly of Diambars and Lille, the diminutive midfielder moved to England in 2015, joining Aston Villa and standing out as the Villains were relegated from the Premier League.

Now at Everton, he provides good cover for the defence with his tackling and interceptions in midfield.

The 28-year-old is now set to be rewarded for his displays with a five year contract, which will keep him at Everton until the summer of 2022.

Our landlord believes that this is good news for Everton and a step in the right direction for the Toffees.
