Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern can’t wait for the season to end and for speculation regarding Sam Allardyce’s future to be resolved.
The former England manager has been heavily criticised after joining the club following the sacking of Ronald Koeman. Protests have been made during Everton’s recent wins calling for Allardyce’s head. Nevertheless, Big Sam believes he will be at Goodison Park next season.
Regardless of who is at the helm, the summer window is crucial for the Toffees following the transfer failures of last summer. Michael Keane arrived from Burnley for big money, but reinforcements are needed at the back. Phil Jagielka is nearing the end of his career and Ashley Williams nowhere near good enough.
Partnering Keane should be Swansea City’s Alfie Mawson – who is valued at £10.8m by Transfermarkt. The 24-year-old has developed into a key player at the Liberty Stadium, playing in every one of their Premier League games this season.
The Englishman is a commanding figure in the back and is extremely strong in the air – winning 66% of his aerial duels this season according to Squawka; more than all of Everton’s centre-backs. Despite his 6’ 2” frame, Mawson is equally adept with the ball at his feet, completing 82% of his passes this campaign.
Swansea would surely want a considerable fee for their prized asset, but Everton are in desperate need of a long-term centre-back partner for Keane – Mawson would be worth the money.
Everton fans, would you be happy with a Mawson-Keane partnership? Let us know!
