Everton: Reece James could replace both Coleman and Gomes

Everton quite clearly need a replacement for Seamus Coleman this summer, and they may have just found their man in Wigan’s Reece James.

The right-back has played a huge 45 games for his club this season, even contributing three goals and three assists. He’s been on loan from Chelsea since the summer and the deal has been a great success.

It’s fair to assume Wigan would love to keep the Englishman but he’s ready to make the step up to the Premier League now, and Football Insider believe Everton are ready to sign him on a permanent basis. If they did, he’d fit in perfectly.

Football London even reported that a teammate at Wigan likened him to ex-Everton forward Romelu Lukaku in terms of how good he is at the age of 19. Jonas Olsson played with Lukaku when he was that age and said James is ‘up there with him’.

That’s high praise for the youngster, but he’s backed it up with performances and if Everton can secure his services then they could have found their long-term fix for the position that has been worrying the club and fans alike. There’s no need to worry anymore.

He can also play in central midfield too, and that’ll be music to Marco Silva’s ears because it’s important for players to be comfortable all around the pitch when a signature counter-attack is being created in his style.

If they sign him, he could replace Seamus Coleman and potentially Andre Gomes all at the same time.
