Everton fans have been somewhat subdued in the Transfer Tavern during the international break given their side’s poor start to the season.
The Merseyside outfit have managed just two wins from their opening seven Premier League matches despite spending in excess of £100 million over the summer, a run which leaves Ronald Koeman’s men in 16th place in the table, and the Dutchman under increasing pressure to turn things around.
Part of their problem has been scoring goals, they’ve mustered just four in the league thus far, yet recent reports from 90minutesgoal (via Soccernet) suggest that they are seeking to reinforce that department in January, with Leicester City outcast Ahmed Musa a target.
The 24-year-old made the move to the King Power Stadium back in 2016 following a successful four-year stint at CSKA Moscow, for whom he scored 54 goals in 168 games and helped to three Russian Premier League titles.
Yet things haven’t gone at all well for the Nigeria international in England, with Musa managing just 33 appearances for the Foxes in the last 14 months or so, including none in any of their seven Premier League matches this term.
And as such his future at the Midlands outfit is far from certain, and it’s uncertainty Everton are reportedly keeping tabs on ahead of a possible move in January in a bid to solve their own striking problems.
Moving for Musa reportedly depends upon whether they can recall Henry Onyekuru from Anderlecht in the New Year, with a work permit causing the problems, so it very much remains to be seen whether the Nigerian can end his Leicester nightmare in January.
Landlord’s verdict: Ahmed Musa was hugely impressive at CSKA Moscow, hence Leicester City splashed out £16 million to bring him to the King Power Stadium last year.
Yet the 24-year-old has shown nothing close to that standard with five goals in 33 games for the Foxes, and no appearances in the Premier League this term highlights his lowly position in Craig Shakespeare’s pecking order, and thus casts doubt over his future at the club.
And with Everton in dire need of striking reinforcements after their sluggish start to the season, it’s hardly surprising to see them linked with the forward, although his prior struggles in English football is surely not what manager Ronald Koeman is looking for.
Ultimately, it’s a move which smacks of desperation.
