Everton reportedly looking at Dutch goal machine to solve striking crisis

Everton fans have been particularly quiet in the Transfer Tavern during the international break following their side’s poor start to the season.

The Merseyside outfit lost 1-0 at home to Burnley last time out to fall down to 16th in the Premier League table, having managed just two victories from their opening seven league games.

And with no wins in their Europa League group stage campaign either, the pressure is firmly on manager Ronald Koeman, yet there might be some respite for our suffering resident Evertonians if a recent report from ESPN is anything to go by.

And that’s because they report that the Toffees are lining up a January move for Sporting Lisbon striker Bas Dost.

The 28-year-old joined the Portuguese heavyweights back in 2016 after a four-year stint at Wolfsburg, and has since gone from strength to strength with a sensational 41 goals in just 53 games for the club, 34 of which came in the Primeira Liga last term.

And with four goals in eight league matches already this season, the Netherlands international continues to excel in front of goal, and as such reports suggest that Dutchman Koeman, a reported admirer of the forward, is seeking to bring him to Goodison Park in the New Year.

The Toffees have mustered a paltry four Premier League goals so far this term to underline their inability to replace Romelu Lukaku during the summer, yet Koeman clearly feels that Dost could come in and make a huge difference to his striking options at Everton.

But whether he can prize the goal machine away from Sporting Lisbon in January remains to be seen.

Landlord’s verdict: For all the money Everton spent during the summer transfer window, they failed to sufficiently replace Manchester United-bound Romelu Lukaku.

Wayne Rooney hasn’t exceeded 20 goals in a season since 2012 and Sandro Ramirez has enjoyed one good season during his career so far, yet the possible January addition of Sporting Lisbon’s Bas Dost would immediately make Everton a better side.

The 28-year-old has been incredibly prolific in Portugal with 34 goals in 31 league matches last season, yet has the all round ability, specifically as a strong and powerful target man, to flourish in Ronald Koeman’s side.

Everton are in desperate need of a forward or two in January, but whether they can tempt Dost away from Portugal remains to be seen.
