Everton reportedly scouting £9m-rated ace in bid to solve striker crisis

Everton fans finally had something to cheer about in the Transfer Tavern over the weekend after seeing their side get back to winning ways.

Ronald Koeman’s men were seriously struggling and in the midst of a four-game losing run before AFC Bournemouth visited Goodison Park on Saturday, and that rut looked set to continue when Josh King gave Eddie Howe’s side a 49th minute lead.

However, a brace from substitute Oumar Niasse turned the game on its head and secured a much-needed win for the Toffees, and somewhat eased the pressure on manager Koeman ahead of their Europa League clash with Apollon Limassol this evening.

And there may be news of further intrigue for our resident Toffees if a recent report from The Birmingham Mail is anything to go by, which outlines that Everton are continuing to monitor Aston Villa striker Jonathan Kodjia.

The 27-year-old moved to Villa Park last year following an impressive stint at Bristol City, and he has translated that form into the claret and blue of Villa by bagging 19 goals in 36 Championship games for the club last term, comfortably finishing as their top-scorer.

However, injury at the rear end of the campaign saw him miss pre-season and the early stages of this campaign, but the Ivory Coast international has since returned and appeared in their last four league matches.

And it was the latter of those four, their thumping win over Burton Albion on Tuesday, which Everton scouts, as well as those from Stoke City, were reportedly at to keep tabs on Kodjia’s progress ahead of a possible move in January, a move which could go some way to solving the Toffees’ evident striker crisis.

Landlord’s verdict: It was reported earlier in the week that Everton scouts went to Aston Villa’s clash with Burton Albion to monitor young forward Keinan Davis, but it turns out that their mission may well have been focused on another Villa star.

And that’s because reports suggest that Jonathan Kodjia, scorer of 19 Championship goals last season, was the subject of the visit to the Pirelli Stadium, and with Ronald Koeman’s men seriously short in the striking department, it would make complete sense.

The Toffees will have to deal with what they’ve got until January at least, but with just four goals scored so far in the Premier League, expect the Merseyside outfit to look for forward reinforcements in January – £9 million-rated Kodjia (as per Transfermarkt) could be on that shortlist should he continue to impress for Villa.
