Everton’s Diniyar Bilyaletdinov has admitted that it looks increasing likely that his teammate Steven Pienaar will leave Goodison Park in January, and that Pienaar’s departure would be a massive blow to the club.
“He’s a great player and if he goes out in January it’ll be a very bad thing for Everton. But we’ve still got other people to replace him” Bilyaletdinov told Sky Sports of his fellow midfielder.
Pienaar has yet to sign an extension on his contract at Everton, which will expire at the end of this season, and failed negotiations have prompted several clubs to show an interest in signing the South African, with Tottenham rumoured to be particularly keen on securing the player’s signature.
Bilyaletdinov could, at least, hope that his teammate’s exit would afford him more first team opportunities; however, it was revealed yesterday that Pienaar’s international teammate, Siphiwe Tshabalala, is already being lined up by David Moyes as a replacement for Pienaar.
Everton fans will not want to see Pienaar go, particularly with their team struggling to score goals or find any sort of consistency in the Premiership so far this season, yet the fact is that a January sale will be the only chance for Everton to make any profit on their midfielder.
David Moyes may now be left with no choice but to let Pienaar go in January, or risk losing the player for nothing next summer.
