Its a busy afternoon in the Football Transfer Tavern as news arrives that Everton will today announce the £5 million signing of Wigan Athletic striker Arouna Kone, according to The Independent.
The Ivorian will join up with former Latics manager Roberto Martinez at Goodison Park later today after the two clubs came to an agreement as Martinez looks to make his mark on the squad he inherited from new Manchester United manager David Moyes.
Kone,29, was a shining light in Wigan’s FA Cup winning side and the former Levante man hit 11 Premier League goals in his debut season in England.
Newcastle United had shown interest in the Ivory Coast international after Alan Pardew made Kone a top transfer target but Pardew has suffered another blow in a nightmare pre-season with the striker choosing Everton.
The Toffees have now paid the £5 million release clause and Kone has agreed a three-year contract at Goodison Park to become Martinez’s first major signing after his arrival as manager.
Will Kone prove a success at Everton? Let us know your thoughts below.
