The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for another defender to follow Victor Lindelof to Old Trafford this summer…
However, it doesn’t look like former defender Michael Keane will be making the move – with the Sun reporting that Everton are closing in on a deal for the Englishman. According to the Sun, Keane has turned down the offer of a move to Man Utd in favour of an Everton switch – with the defender seemingly concerned at the prospect of missing game time due to the arrival of Lindelof.
Of course, this is a fairly reasonable decision from Keane, with the Englishman anything but a certain starter at Old Trafford. Eric Bailly enjoyed a stellar first year, whilst Marcos Rojo was also a surprise package – and this is without considering the credentials of new signing Victor Lindelof. At best, Keane would have a real fight on his hands – and that isn’t exactly what he needs right now.
At Everton, meanwhile, he will likely be a regular starter, with the Toffees’ current defence beginning to age somewhat. He really impressed last season for Burnley, and clearly Koeman has recognised that, and the Toffees in the Transfer Tavern think that he would be perfect alongside Ashley Williams.
It remains to be seen whether Man Utd could launch another defensive move this summer.
