Everton set to do battle for Kilgallon

Everton and Burnley are set to battle it out for the signature of Sheffield United defender Matthew Kilgallon.

The Mirror claim that Burnley’s new manager Brian Law has been given the green light to break the club’s wage structure in order to offer him £1.5m a year, double what anyone else earns at Turf Moor. Law is hoping that despite initially being rejected by Kilgallon, the bumper contract will be able to change his mine.

The deal has been given the go ahead by Sheffield United who fear they will lose the player on a free next year.

Everton are monitoring the situation, especially as they have an opening in defence with Lucas Neill joining Galatasaray. But the Mersey side club would rather take him on a free next year than pay for him now. If need be though, it is thought that they will make a low bid for him as the window comes to an end to see if they can force Sheffield United’s hand.
