Everton should hijack Arsenal’s move for improving manager to replace Sam Allardyce

The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern have been bitterly disappointed by their club’s performances in recent weeks and, as such, plenty of our punters are calling for yet another managerial change this summer.

Sam Allardyce has done the job he was expected to do when he arrived at the club by comfortably steering the club to safety, but his impact has hardly captured the imagination of the supporters just yet. Allardyce is a no thrills manager who has consistently proven to be one of the best managers in the business with regards to avoiding relegation, but he has never, and never will promise to play aesthetically pleasing football in the process.

His style of play has made him a rather unpopular figure amongst the Toffees faithful, so it would hardly be surprising to see him depart the club in the near future. With that being said, Everton will presumably need to appoint a new manager this summer who has the potential to stamp an exciting brand of football onto a side which is lacking inspiration at this moment in time.

And one man who matches that description is the Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira, although they will need to fend off interest from the Gunners in order to bring him to Goodison Park according to the Daily Mail. The report claims that Arsenal have identified Vieira as an ideal long-term successor for the Frenchman, but they will not seek to appoint him at the end of the current campaign.

With that in mind, Everton could represent the perfect destination for Vieira to prove himself in the Premier League before moving to his old club, and if the opportunity to appoint him presents itself this summer it’s one which the Toffees simply have to take.

Vieira is still at an early phase of his managerial development, as his current role with New York City is his first appointment at a senior level. Prior to his move to New York, Vieira was the manager of Manchester City’s U23 side, and his experience with the club will have given him an excellent platform on which to build his career.

The fact that New York City have moved into 1st place in the MLS already this season speaks volumes about the progress Vieira is making, so a move to the Premier League this summer certainly wouldn’t be beyond his capabilities.

Appointing Vieira would be something of a gamble, but he knows the Premier League inside out and he has made an excellent beginning to his managerial career, so it would certainly be one worth taking.
