Everton should look to this former Barcelona man to shore up their defence next season

Everton will be heading into the new season with renewed confidence and an expectancy around the club to challenge for European places once more under Ronald Koeman.

Despite the futures of the likes of Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku looking under threat, the Toffees fans here in the Tavern have been blown away by the £30m and £28m signings of Jordan Pickford and Davy Klaassen in the last week or so.

However, their spending is highly likely to continue, and our landlord has been getting into some pretty in depth discussions about who could be next through the door at Goodison Park.

One player who has come up in conversations this week is former Barcelona man and Dortmund defender Marc Bartra.

The Spaniard has become one of the top defenders in the Bundesliga since making the move from the Catalan club a few years back, and represents an excellent if not obvious option for the Toffees to pursue.

Classy enough on the ball, but still equally as solid in the tackle and aerially, Bartra is certainly someone who could adapt to the Premier League and become a regular member of any top flight club.

Everton would need to stump up some decent cash to land someone like Barta, but as we have seen, this does not seem to a be a problem this summer and he is definitely someone who Koeman could consider.

Toffees fans, what do you think? Good signing? Let us know!
