For Everton, a summer of more big spending is proving to be an inconsistent approach, with the Toffees struggling so far to get any sort of consistency in their results.

Manager Marco Silva will be hoping to turn the Merseysiders into one of the top forces outside of the top four in the country, while the eventual aim will no doubt be to break that mould and become one of the top four clubs in the country themselves.

With the January window approaching ever faster, Everton and Silva will no doubt have their eyes on plenty of players across Europe, but one player we at the Tavern think they should be keeping an eye on is current Brentford forward Ollie Watkins, who has become one of the Championship's top talents.

Watkins already has five goals to his name this term, and valued at just £6.3m by Transfermarkt, the former Exeter man is a realistic target for a club like Everton.

The 22-year-old has plenty of time to develop too, meaning he is the ideal sort of signing for a whole host of top flight clubs looking to add some of the best young talent in the country to their ranks.

Blessed with excellent pace and seemingly able to move just as quick with the ball as he does without, Watkins also has a keen eye for goal and is clearly destined for the Premier League eventually.

The Bees star would be a shrewd signing in either this window or the next for Everton, that is for certain.

Toffees fans, what do you think? Good signing? Let us know in the comments!
