Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern are buzzing at the news that Sam Allardyce has been sacked as manager – we can’t keep them from singing!
The ex-England manager was appointed Ronald Koeman’s successor back in November with the club on the verge of a relegation battle. Undoubtedly, Allardyce turned the club around and guided them to an eighth-place finish. However, his style of play left the Goodison faithful disillusioned which ultimately made his position untenable.
Favourite to take the reins on Merseyside is former Watford boss – Marco Silva. He was Everton’s primary target before Allardyce but the Hornets rejected their advances and reported the Toffees for an illegal approach. Now unemployed, the Blues could make a play for him this summer.
If he is appointed, he should return to his former club for midfielder – Abdoulaye Doucoure. The French midfielder has been one of the unforeseen stars of the season, scoring seven goals and notching four assists in the Premier League this season. Silva built his squad around the midfielder as has new manager Javi Gracia.
Valued at £10.8m by Transfermarkt, Doucoure was recently named Watford’s Player of the Year. He is the ideal box-to-box midfielder; no Watford player has created more chances or completed more passes than former Rennes man. Also, he has completed more tackles per 90 minute than the rest of the squad according to Squawka.
The Toffees need a midfield general – Doucoure is their man.
