Everton are on the lookout for defensive reinforcements this summer with both the left-back and centre-back positions areas of the squad manager Marco Silva is hoping to improve.

Barcelona pair Lucas Digne and Yerry Mina have been targeted with the former said to be close to joining the Merseyside club (via Sky Sports).

For Mina, on the other hand, there is still a lot of work left to be done, while other clubs including Manchester United are rumoured to be interested in the Colombia international (via Sport).

If Everton are not be able to lure Mina to Goodison Park, AS Roma's Kostas Manolas is another high-calibre central defender the club should consider targeting.

Manolas, who is valued at £36m by Transfermarkt, has a £33m release clause in his contract (via talkSPORT) that would be well worth triggering.

The Toffees are in desperate need of a new centre-back with both Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams on the decline, and they are unlikely to find one more complete than Manolas.

The Greece international is one of the strongest tacklers in Serie A and possesses the overall power and physicality needed to succeed in the Premier League.

As well as being strong on the ground, Manolas is also a defender capable of winning most of his aerial duels.

Ultimately, the 27-year-old would be an upgrade on all of Everton's current crop of centre-halves and is exactly that kind of player the Toffees need if owner Farhad Moshiri's ambitions are to be met.
