Manchester City and Everton fans are looking up here in the Football Transfer Tavern after the claim from the Mail on Sunday.
The publication have claimed that Gareth Barry wants to stay at Goodison Park next season – where he is currently on loan.
Manchester City are not interested in taking the midfielder back and Barry is keen to make sure his final contract is a good one. Doubts remain over the wages Everton could offer him.
Barry is currently on around £100,000-a-week and obviously as one of our punters notes over a pint, that is not a figure Everton can afford.
Barry however is determined to play for a club who value him – and that will not be Manchester City.
He claimed there will not be a farewell at the end of the season – as he hopes there is life yet at Goodison Park.
Speaking ahead of today’s victory against Manchester United, Barry noted: “It won’t be a case of waving to the fans on Sunday. That would be like saying goodbye before I’ve made any decision. I’m just desperate to finish the season on a high.
“Roberto has been brilliant. I’ve learned so much from him, he’s got great ideas all the time that are ahead of the game. Even at 33, I’m still learning tactical stuff from him.”
Will Gareth Barry sign a permanent deal with the club he has performed so admirably for this season? Let us know your thoughts below.
