Everton struggling to land summer target, Koeman could be forced to look elsewhere

The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern want their side’s summer spending spree to continue…

It has been a great summer for the Toffees, with a handful of highly-regarded names moving to Goodison Park – with Koeman looking to ensure progression next season.

However, despite all their success, one target has thus far evaded them, and it doesn’t appear as though Everton are going to have much luck landing him going forward either. According to Wales Online, Gyfli Sigurdsson is quickly becoming more and more likely to remain at Swansea City this summer, with Everton hesitant to reach the £50 million asking price that the Swans are demanding.

A fee of £50 million a few years ago would have represented a record fee, but such is the nature of the English transfer market – the value of key players has skyrocketed.

Certainly, though, the Icelandic international is a top player, and last season was arguably his best yet – and so it is no surprise that Swansea are demanding a premium to let their star man leave.

With just a few weeks to go until the start of the new Premier League season, Koeman needs to decide whether this deal is still possible or not. All signs, at present, are pointing towards the answer to that question being no – and so perhaps the Dutchman should look elsewhere.

Landlord’s Verdict

This update will make for disappointing reading for the Everton supporting punters in the Transfer Tavern. Sigurdsson would have been the jewel in Everton’s newly formed financial crown, but it doesn’t appear as though even their financial muscle can reach the levels that Swansea are demanding.

If the Toffees are looking for an attacking midfielder, though, they could do no better than the Icelandic player. He bagged 9 goals and 13 assists last season for a struggling team, and so there is no limit to what he could do for an impressive Everton side in the next campaign.
