Manchester City fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are in agreement that a loan deal for Jack Rodwell would be best for all parties.
The latest reports from the Daily Star are suggesting that Sunderland have joined Everton in the hunt for the Citizens’ outcast midfielder.
Black Cats boss Gus Poyet has identified the 23-year-old as a top transfer target, having already lost Jack Colback, Craig Gardner and Ki Sung-Yueng from the squad that completed one of the most dramatic escapes in Premier League history last season.
City are ready to allow Rodwell to leave on loan, with the three-capped England midfielder having failed to make any sort of impact at the Etihad Stadium since arriving in the summer of 2012.
Rodwell himself is desperate for a move in order to experience first team football once again, but Poyet knows he faces a challenge in convincing him to join the Wearside club over former employers Everton, who sold him to City for £12 million two years ago.
Poyet is still tracking Cardiff City’s Jordon Mutch and hopes he can persuade former club Chelsea to allow French defender Kurt Zouma to spend the season on loan at the Stadium of Light.
Whilst Chelsea don’t want to sell Zouma having only signed him from Saint-Etienne in January, Jose Mourinho acknowledges a season playing regular Premier League football would be beneficial for the 19-year-old.
