It is all about the breaking news here at the Football Transfer Tavern and Goal.com have just announced that Everton have completed the signing of Leroy Fer.
The club have long been admirers of the physical central midfielder and the latest news is that a deal thought to be around £8.5 million has been completed. The FC Twente star had not only been on the radar of David Moyes but also of Newcastle United and the Toffees manager will see this as a huge coup.
The rangy 23-year-old has been likened to Patrick Vieira and is a box-to-box player who never seems to run out of steam. Of course the acquisition of such a player will be seen to cast doubt over the future of star performer Marouane Fellani at Goodison Park given the similar nature of the players. Fer has netted 10 times in 29 games for the Enschede-based side since joining from Rotterdam giants Feyenoord.
Whilst we may be soon witnessing the departure of Mario Balotelli, Fer seems able to give him a run for his money with the player splashing out an eye-whopping £22,000 on a horse for his partner, only to be told she couldn’t keep it because she lived in a block of flats.
Clearly Moyes has himself a brainy one there!
