Everton team news: Silva suggests Lookman may get his starting chance against Newcastle

Everton will want to put behind the Merseyside derby defeat to Liverpool behind them as quickly as possible.

The Toffees were on the wrong end of a 1-0 result when Jordan Pickford made a huge error that gifted the hosts a goal in the dying moments of the game through Divock Origi.

Marco Silva was unable to fault the performance of his side in the game and will want to see the same type of display on Wednesday when they return to Goodison Park to play Newcastle United in the Premier League.

And, it appears as though one man could get his chance to start from the off against the Magpies.

Silva revealed to the club’s official website that Ademola Lookman had played well in the 30 minutes he had against Liverpool and is pushing for a starting place in the team.

“Ademola is pushing really hard and maybe even has shown he deserves a place in the starting XI. He had a small issue last week and he only trained with our group on Saturday,” he said.

“He did well in the 30 minutes he played against Liverpool and he is more than ready to start. That is a possibility for tomorrow. Not just him – we have not had that much time for recovery since our last match. It is possible I will make some changes to our starting XI.”

The Verdict:

A number of Everton fans have been calling for Lookman to get a chance in the first-team and it appears as though they may be about to get their wish.

The 21-year-old, who is valued at £18million by Transfermarkt, has found it difficult to break into Silva’s starting XI and has had to make do with cameos from the substitutes bench.

The winger impressed for Red Bull Leipzig last season whilst on loan, and if he gets the opportunities to shine at Goodison Park this year, he could be an excellent man to have in the Toffees’ attacking arsenal.
