Their conversations had been pretty Romelu Lukaku-biased but it now seems that another Chelsea striker has hit the radar of the Everton bosses.
Fortunately that striker isn’t Fernando Torres but instead former West Ham United and Newcastle United striker Demba Ba – who is surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.
According to the Daily Mail, a £10 million bid for the Senegalese striker is on its way after Roberto Martinez and co accepted that Lukaku was probably out of their price range – even in the West London club do decide to sell.
Ba has been in fine form of late scoring some vital goals but even so, he has not done enough to win over Jose Mourinho.
It looks to be a busy transfer period with Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa top of their shopping list, meaning that a clear-out is on the cards at Stamford Bridge.
And Demba Ba could be one of the first casualties of the Chelsea cull, but Everton face competition for his signature with former club West Ham United interested as well as Turkish outfit Fenerbahce and even Arsenal.
However it’s unlikely that Chelsea will be prepared to see Ba to direct competition leaving Everton in pole position for his signature.
Everton fans. Is Demba Ba the man you need or are you going to use and abuse the loan system (again)? Let us know your thoughts below.
