Everton will need to make reinforcements in the summer if they are able to reach their goals of obtaining European football once again. Marco Silva’s side have been rather disappointing for large parts of the campaign, although they have started to go through the gears recently.
Whilst players will be needed, Silva will also likely look to use the upcoming transfer window as an opportunity to offload deadwood from his squad and it appears one man will be told that he will be heading out of the exit door in the next few months.
What’s the News?
According to Football Insider sources, Everton are to tell Ashley Williams to find a new club in the summer.
The Wales international has found some form during his time with Stoke City in the Championship, however, the Toffees are ready to end his time at Goodison Park and will not offer him a new deal.
The news that Williams will not be offered a new deal at Everton should hardly come as a surprise. The Wales international had looked out of his depth at times during his spell with the Toffees and really failed to replicate the performances he managed to produce during his time at Swansea City.
The 34-year-old may have been impressing on loan at Stoke, where he has become a mainstay in the side, however, with a number of younger and talented enforcers already at Goodison Park, it is not hard to understand that he does not have a future at the Premier League side.
Silva already has a number of defenders available to him heading forward, with the likes of Michael Keane and Yerry Mina in the squad, whilst Phil Jagielka also offers him plenty of leadership and experience that the first-team can look to use to their advantage.
It would not be a surprise to see Everton head into the transfer market in the summer for another centre-back with Kurt Zouma’s future in doubt – although, if he were made available by Chelsea, the Merseysiders will likely look to make his stay permanent.
