Here in the Football Transfer Tavern there is drama after talkSPORT claimed that Everton are set to pip Arsenal to the post in their race for sought-after defender Aleksandar Dragovic.
The player has long been on Arsene Wenger’s radar and it was only last week that we were linking the defender with a move to the Emirates Stadium. Now it seems that Everton are set to move ahead in the race for the player after the 22-year-old was impressed with David Moyes and agreed to join Everton. The Austrian international is even willing to snub a move to likely Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund.
Given that Phil Neville is leaving Goodison Park in the summer and the future of Johnny Heitinga is still doubtful, it is clear that defensive reinforcements are required for the Toffees and Moyes is not waiting around in order to lure his top targets. After learning that he may well miss out on Celtic’s Victor Wanyama to boot, this is another blow for Arsene Wenger in his quest to land what he thinks are the players who will rebuild his team this summer.
Will Everton beat Arsenal to the signature of Dragovic? Rate this rumour below.
