Everton touted as potential destination for another Turkish star as Allardyce looks for firepower

The 2017 season began so brightly for Everton, with former boss Ronald Koeman handed a transfer warchest by new owner Farhad Moshiri in his attempt to turn the Toffees into top-four contenders.

Fans here in The Transfer Tavern were confident that their side would excel in the top-half of the division, but a nightmare start saw Koeman removed from his role as manager, and replaced by former England boss Sam Allardyce.

Star names including Wayne Rooney, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Sandro Ramirez failed to save the Dutchman’s job, but since Allardyce’s appointment, things have changed dramatically at Goodison Park.

Back in the top-half of the table and looking forward instead of backwards, fans at The Tavern have their sights firmly set on a top-seven finish, and will look to the January transfer window with great excitement now that Big Sam is at the helm and in control of comings and goings at the club.

Fans around the pool table could hardly believe their ears today, when Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo linked the Toffees with a move for Barcelona winger, Arda Turan.

The Turkish international has been frozen out at the Camp Nou following his move from Atletico Madrid, and the publication reports that the player is on the lookout for a new club, with agent Ahmet Bulut touting Goodison Park as a possible destination for the player.

Landlord’s Verdict

Mundo Deportivo have said the transfer ‘won’t be easy’ due to Turan’s astronomical wage demands of seven million Euros a year, but should the 31-year-old lower his expectations, then a move could certainly be on the cards.

However with the player on the decline and heading towards the latter stages of his career, is this the right move for the Toffees?

There exists a plethora of exciting young talent coming through the ranks at Goodison Park, and it would be a shame to stunt the development of the club’s youngsters to accommodate an overpriced, ageing player.

Better targets are out there for much more appealing financial packages, and Allardyce must surely give this deal a miss.
