Everton tracking 6ft 5in full back as replacement for Leighton Baines

The Everton fans here in the Transfer Tavern have told us that they regard Leighton Baines as a cult hero.

The loyalty and consistency of the veteran left back has been unquestionable over the years, as he has ignored advances from the big clubs in the past to stay with The Toffees.

But they are also realistic about the future and know that Baines will not be around forever.

There are a couple of promising young left backs on Everton’s books – Brendan Galloway and Luke Garbutt could make the step up eventually but recent reports have suggested that the Merseyside outfit are still searching for another young left back to become Baines’ successor.

According to a report by The Sun, Everton are keeping their tabs on Preston North End youngster Josh Earl.

The youthful left back is a giant, standing at 6ft 5in, and is highly rated by Preston, who have integrated him into the first team picture this season.

The 19-year-old was watched by Everton scout Steve Walsh, who has recently brought in the likes of Ademola Lookman, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Bassala Sambou from lower league clubs.

However, the talented teenager suffered ligament damage in midweek, which will slow any progress with this deal.

Everton fans – Would Earl be a good signing? Let us know below…
