Reports in the Football Transfer Tavern this afternoon indicate that Keisuke Honda wants to make a move to a top European side this summer with the Daily Star reporting yesterday that Everton are interested in acquiring his services.
New Everton boss Roberto Martinez is thought to be chasing the Japan international who is available on a free transfer this summer after his contract expired at CSKA Moscow.
And in encouragement to the Toffees, the former former Nagoya Grampus Eight and VVV-Venlo star has admitted that it could be the right time to start afresh.
The 27-year-old is reported by Sky Sports as saying: “I don’t know where I’ll be taking the next step yet, but I know I’ve got a chance [to play for a big club].
“I have until August so I’ll wait and see. If I go to a big club, I’ll become an infinitely better player. The improvement I’ll make then will be anything but minor.
“I’m the type to soak up everything and anything in my surroundings, and if I play with better players, I’ll get better. It’s how I’ve been able to get this far in my career.”
Serie A side AC Milan are also thought to be interested in the player who shone in his country’s three games at the Confederations Cup, scoring once.
