If Everton had a striker that was capable of finding goals on a regular basis, surely they would be competing for European football, wouldn’t they? Although Gylfi Sigurdsson and Richarlison have been doing their best to try and find the back of the net regularly, no one else at Goodison Park has really been in and amongst the goals too often this season.
And, with Marco Silva and the Toffees desperate to change that in the summer transfer window, it appears they could be about to go all out with one of their transfer targets.
What’s the News?
El Desmarque are claiming that Everton are prepared to offer Borja Iglesias the chance to earn four times the amount of money he currently does at Espanyol to join them in the Premier League this summer.
The striker, who has a release clause of €28million (£24.2m), has been in terrific form this season for the Catalonian outfit and has scored 11 goals in his first campaign in La Liga.
A story regarding Iglesias and a move to Everton just does not appear to want to go away and could be something that does eventually happen in the summer. It was reported in January by Marca that he had the chance to join the Toffees in the winter but rejected the move as he did not want to leave Espanyol just six months after arriving from Real Zaragoza.
However, with the Premier League outfit desperate to solve their goalscoring concerns with a striker that has proven he is not goal-shy and have the means necessary to do so, the 26-year-old could be tempted to finally make a move to England’s top-flight.
And, on paper, he looks as though he could be the man to finally end Everton’s quest of trying to replace Romelu Lukaku as the Spaniard is a physical player that would help the other attackers at the club when putting balls into the box. Iglesias is also very good when it comes to creating opportunities for others as well, which is something Silva must also be desperate to bring to the side.
However, one thing that Everton fans would be right to be sceptical about would be the fact that Sandro Ramirez had looked extremely promising in Spain and those at Goodison Park will not need to be told how bad things turned out for him.
Whether Iglesias can be the man to finally solve the attacking woes that Oumar Niasse, Cenk Tosun and Ramirez have all tried do to before him and failed remains to be seen, but the 26-year-old must be a player worth seriously bringing in.
