Everton kept the pace with the Premier League top four following a hard-fought victory against Cardiff City at the weekend.

The Toffees have made a decent start to life under Marco Silva and were faced with a Bluebirds side on the verge of the relegation zone. It took until the second half to find the first and only goal of the game, with Gylfi Sigurdsson finding the back of the net on the hour mark. The win will give Silva confidence heading into the first Merseyside derby of his tenure at Anfield next weekend.

The January transfer window is less than two months away, and Silva will be hoping for similar success in the market. The Portuguese spent wisely during the summer, and is expected to bolster his attacking options with Cenk Tosun struggling for form. Reports suggest the ex-Watford and Hull City boss will target Inter Milan’s Gabriel Barbosa.

Instead, Everton should be making a move for Nantes goal machine Emiliano Sala.

Valued at just £12.6 million by Transfermarkt, the Argentine has been a regular goal scorer in Ligue 1 for a number of years. The 28-year-old has netted double figures for league goals in each of the last three seasons. In the current campaign, he has truly taken his game to the next level, netting an incredible 11 goals in just 13 league appearances so far.

A tall, powerful forward, Sala would have no issues adapting to the physicality of the Premier League. The striker is adept at leading the line, meaning he would slot seamlessly into Silva’s system on Merseyside. Alongside quality players such as Richarlison and Sigurdsson, Sala would have even more ammunition to continue his hot streak in front of goal.

His performances are bound to attract plenty of interest and a national team call-up should also be on the way – Everton need to snap this goal machine as quickly as possible.
