Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern will be expecting change at the club in the summer after an ultimately underwhelming season – however, they could be set to lose one of their key men in the process.
And that’s because, according to a report in The Daily Mail, Wayne Rooney has told the Toffees that he wants to join DC United, with a deal with the Major League Soccer side thought to be close to completion.
The former England international, valued at £13.5 million as per Transfermarkt, is ready to move on from Goodison Park once again after just one season back at his boyhood club, having seemingly become disillusioned with life under manager Sam Allardyce.
The attacker has been utilised in a deeper midfield role at times this term, which has appeared to frustrate him as he was angry to have been substituted in the Merseyside derby after less than an hour against Liverpool last month.
And it now looks as though England’s record goal-scorer will indeed depart Goodison Park this summer.
Landlord’s Verdict: The Everton locals in the Tavern will be disappointed with the news that they could lose the 32-year-old once again, especially after a poor campaign, although a number of them would wish him well as he tries to take on America.
The punters will have expected to have seen more from Rooney during his 12-month stay – however, the fans will want the club to sign a number of experienced players that can help to make an immediate impact as they try and challenge for European football next season.
