Everton will be scouring the transfer market in the summer to ensure they do not have a repeat of this season’s opening month or so, and fans in the Transfer Tavern will be urging the club to make sure they bring in players of sufficient quality.
The Toffees had a poor start by their standards, especially after a summer of huge spending, and the locals in the bar would have been expecting to fight for a European football place, not a spot to remain in the Premier League.
Ronald Koeman was shown the door early on and Sam Allardyce came in to replace the Dutchman, much to the chagrin of the punters – however, he managed to turn the ship and guide them to a likely mid-table finish.
Many of the locals have put that down to the signings he made in the winter, with Cenk Tosun and Theo Walcott arriving, and they will be hoping he can do the same this summer with Sky Sports reporting that he has identified one man already to help improve the squad.
They are reporting that Everton are considering to make a move for Swansea City’s Ki Sung-yueng, what with the midfielder’s contract set to expire at the end of the season.
The South Korean is wanted by a number of clubs, with four other Premier League clubs thought to be interested in the 29-year-old, but given Everton’s bright future in a new stadium in years to come, alongside a possible European assault next term, the £6.3 million-rated star (as per Transfermarkt) could be convinced of a move to Goodison Park this summer.
Landlord’s Verdict: The Everton fans in the Tavern will be excited that they could bring in a player of Ki’s quality and ability on a free transfer, having put in a number of key performances for the Swans since his arrival.
And with signings clearly a must this summer to move to the next level, several of our resident Toffees fans are hoping that the 29-year-old is one of many stars who will sign for their club during the close season.
