Everton supporters in the Transfer Tavern are eagerly anticipating the new era at their football club following the news that Marco Silva has been appointed the club’s new manager to succeed Sam Allardyce.
The former Hull City and Watford boss has been out of work since losing his job at the latter back in January, with the Hornets themselves laying blame with Everton for their approaches for the 40-year-old following the departure of Toffees chief Ronald Koeman. But the Everton hierarchy have got their man with Silva replacing Allardyce, who was relieved of his duties earlier this month despite leading the club to an eighth place finish in the Premier League.
As such, attentions are turning towards what signings Silva may seek to make, with recent reports linking them with a move for Besiktas midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup, with Davy Klaassen reportedly set to go the other way.
And following the Dutchman’s struggles at Goodison Park, alongside the quality £7.2 million-rated Ozyakup (as per Transfermarkt) would bring to the Toffees, this potential swap deal would without doubt represent great business by Everton.
Ultimately, things just haven’t worked for 25-year-old Klaassen since his move to Merseyside last summer, with the Netherlands international earning just ten starts for the club this term, and failing to net in any of them.
And with Gylfi Sigurdsson and Wayne Rooney, to name but a few, ahead of him in the pecking order, the former Ajax man simply hasn’t been able to produce the goods at Goodison Park, thus plunging his future into doubt ahead of the 2018/19 season.
And were the Toffees to indeed offer him as part of a swap deal with Ozyakup, it would give Klaassen the opportunity to not only get out of Everton, but to also resurrect his career at Besiktas, a club who could be playing European football next season.
So not only would it give the 25-year-old a fresh start and indeed get him off the books at Everton, but it would also see the Toffees land a hugely talented midfielder in the form of Ozyakup, to the point that he has been linked with a return to Arsenal in recent months.
The 25-year-old left the North London club back in 2012 for Besiktas and has since gone from strength to strength with 219 appearances for the Turkish giants, in which time he has scored 27 goals and laid on 50 assists.
And with eight assists in all competitions this time round, adding to the ten he contributed last term, it’s clear that the Turkey international has a keen eye for a pass and is able to dictate things in the final third of the pitch – he’d add a great deal to this Everton team.
And with the Toffees struggling to land on a perfect and working midfield over the course of the 2017/18 season, Ozyakup’s arrival, at the expense of Klaassen, would give manager Silva even greater choice in the middle of the park from which to build a side capable of challenging the top six clubs.
So while Klaassen is very much down the pecking order at present, Ozyakup would almost certainly be near the top, so a possible swap deal involving the two can only be a good thing for the Merseyside outfit.
