According to a recent report from The Sun, Everton are one side keeping tabs on winger Yacine Brahimi. The Algeria international currently plays his football at Portuguese giants Porto and has done so since 2014, in which time the 28-year-old has more than proven his worth with an impressive 44 goals in 182 games for the Primeira Liga heavyweights.

But with his contract up in the summer, Brahimi could be set for a move away in the near future, with Marco Silva’s Everton one side, alongside Newcastle United and West Ham, reportedly keen on the attacker, in a move which, were it to happen, would spell seriously bad news for Ademola Lookman.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, Algerian star Brahimi has been a stalwart in the Porto side since his move there from Granada little over four years ago, with the 28-year-old appearing 182 times in all for the Portuguese outfit, in which time he has bagged 44 goals and laid on 36 assists.

That equates to a direct contribution every 164 minutes for the club to underline his importance and overall ability in the final third of the pitch - there’s a reason he has been linked with a move to the Premier League in years gone by.

And with three goals and two assists in all competitions this season, Brahimi continues to produce the goods for Porto, which is why the fact that he is out of contract at the end of the season, and as such can speak to Premier League clubs come January, is likely of interest to Everton boss Silva.

But were the Portuguese boss, manager of Porto’s rivals Sporting Lisbon between 2014 and 2015, to seal a deal for 28-year-old, it would likely spell bad news for England youngster Lookman.

The 20-year-old made the move to Goodison Park back in January 2017 after impressing at Charlton Athletic, but other than his strike on his debut against Manchester City that month, he hasn’t really had the opportunity to seriously prove his worth at the Merseyside outfit.

In fact, the attacker has just 31 senior appearances to his name in the last two years or so to underline his position in the pecking order, which has got worse in the last 12 months following the arrival of Theo Walcott in January, and Richarlison and Bernard during the summer.

As such, Lookman has yet to start a Premier League game under Silva this term albeit has been on the bench in each of their last nine matches - but even that position would be under-threat were Brahimi to move to Goodison Park.

Yes, Richarlison has been playing as a number nine recently and as such the 20-year-old has got closer to a first team start, but on the whole he is behind the likes of Richarlison, Bernard, and Walcott in the pecking order already, let alone if Brahimi joins the Toffees.

As such, while a move for £23.4 million-rated Brahimi (as per Transfermarkt) would likely delight Everton fans, it would be seriously bad news for Toffees youngster Lookman.
