Everton’s winning streak was ended by Manchester United at the weekend thanks to goals from Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba.

Pogba gave the Red Devils the lead from the penalty spot despite Jordan Pickford saving his initial belated spot kick – the rebound fell right at the Frenchman’s feet. Martial doubled their advantage after the interval, and a late Gylfi Sigurdsson penalty ultimately wasn’t enough to salvage any points for the Toffees. The defeat snapped their three-game win streak in the Premier League.

One performance, in particular, that would have been concerning for Marco Silva was that of right-back Seamus Coleman. The Irishman, who was once considered a key player for the Blues, has fallen well short of expectations in recent seasons. With Jonjoe Kenny not providing a real threat to his position in the team, it could be argued that another right-back should be targeted in the January transfer window.

One man Silva could target is Monaco right-back – Almamy Toure. Valued at £7.2m by Transfermarkt, the 22-year-old was a key player for Leonardo Jardim before Monaco splashed the cash to sign Benjamin Henrichs in the summer. With his contract set to expire next summer, Everton could grab themselves a bargain.

Toure loves to get up and down the right flank and would have Coleman fighting for his place in the side. An excellent defender who likes to contribute to the attack – the Malian is perfectly suited to the Premier League. Still young and improving, the Monaco youth academy graduate would give Silva a top quality option at the back to help improve Everton’s leaky defence.

Potentially available at a great price – this should be a no-brainer for the Toffees.
