Everton must be ramping up their efforts to sign a striker now the January transfer window is officially open.
The Blues have performed below expectations under Marco Silva this season following a dismal spell of form over the festive period. The former Watford boss has lacked a true goalscorer to get the best out of his attacking system at Goodison Park. Cenk Tosun has failed to impress since signing from Besiktas and Dominic Calvert-Lewin is yet to find the back of the net consistently.
Landing a new forward should be top of their priority list during the current transfer window and reports in Sky Sports suggest Silva has turned his attention to Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi. The Belgian was on loan with Valencia but his spell in Spain was cut short with Everton registering an interest in the former Marseille forward.
Instead, the Toffees should aim to sign Napoli hitman – Arkadiusz Milik. Valued at £22.5m by Transfermarkt, the Poland international has been one of Italy’s top scorers since joining from Ajax back in 2016. Milik missed the majority of last season through injury but still managed to score five goals in five appearances but the 24-year-old has quickly made up for lost time in the current campaign.
The forward has found the back of the net ten times in just 11 starts in the Serie A highlighting the threat he would pose to Premier League defences. Milik is a lethal finisher and would give Everton a true number nine capable of replacing Romelu Lukaku. The Pole excels when leading the line as a lone forward meaning he is perfect for Silva’s 4-2-3-1 system on Merseyside.
Napoli would want a large fee for their star player – the price would definitely be worth paying for the Blues.
