According to a recent report from The Daily Mirror, Everton are one side keeping tabs on defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The 20-year-old currently plays his football at fellow Premier League outfit Crystal Palace having come up through the ranks at the London club, in which time he has proven to be an absolute revelation in producing a series of hugely impressive displays.

And reports suggest that Marco Silva’s Everton are keen on the England Under-21 international, but so are Premier League champions Manchester City, which is why winning the race for the £4.5 million-rated sensation (as per Transfermarkt) would represent Marcel Brands’ finest success at Goodison Park to date.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, former midfielder Brands has been director of football at Everton since taking over from Steve Walsh back in March of this year, and as such played a vital part in what many deemed to be a very successful transfer window at the Merseyside outfit.

The likes of Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes were lured by the Dutchman from Spanish giants Barcelona while they also got deals done for the likes of Bernard and Kurt Zouma, not to mention the big money addition of Richarlison which is already proving to be a masterstroke.

But were Brands to fend off interest from Pep Guardiola’s Man City in Palace youngster Wan-Bissaka, that would represent his finest success to date.

It goes without saying that the Citizens are one of the most desirable destinations in English football at present given the success Guardiola and his team are currently having, storming to the league title last term and starting this season in similar fashion to suggest that they will again take some stopping.

As such, 20-year-old Wan-Bissaka is likely to be interested in working under Guardiola in a team challenging for the biggest honours in the club game, even if first team football isn’t a given what with both Kyle Walker and Danilo already at the Etihad Stadium.

Nonetheless, City is obviously a very big draw, but Everton appear to be making strides under Silva to suggest that they themselves have a bright future ahead of them, not to mention the fact that the right back department hasn’t exactly excelled in recent times.

Seamus Coleman’s lengthy absence due to injury opened the door for Jonjoe Kenny to stake his claim for the right back berth, and while he performed solidly for the most part, he simply didn’t prove to be as effective as fellow England Under-21 star Wan-Bissaka.

And even after Coleman’s return to the first team this season, some Evertonians haven’t been overly impressed with the 30-year-old to suggest that further reinforcements may well be needed in that area of the field - Wan-Bissaka could be that man.

The 20-year-old has been a bright spark in an otherwise testing start for Palace this term in starting all but one of their 11 league games, missing the other only as a result of suspension.

And in showing great pedigree defensively alongside a willingness to get forward and help out in attack, the young defender appears to have an extremely bright future in the game - there’s a reason City are reportedly keen on his signature.

And given the status of the Citizens as the best team in England currently, and thus how big a pull Guardiola’s team are, winning the race for Wan-Bissaka would represent Brands’ finest success at Everton to date.
