Marco Silva invested in players heavily over the summer transfer window.
Everton forked out large fees for Richarlison, Yerry Mina and Lucas Digne especially, bringing in Kurt Zouma and Andre Gomes on loan deals.
The cheapest of the lot was Bernard. Moving from Shakhtar Donetsk on a free, the 26-year-old is a great coup for a team like Everton, who are looking to create an attacking-based side.
Bernard most frequently starts out on the wing, having made 20 appearances there this season, scoring once assisting four goals in the process, with the vast majority coming from the left. If Everton did have a striker that Silva favours, Bernard may not be starting at all given that The Toffees best winger, Richarlison, often starts up front as he is their most potent attacking threat.
However, although Bernard may be a regular starter, for now, he will need to step up his performances to assure that for the coming months.
With reports from Sky Sports that Everton could bring in Michy Batshuayi to solve their lack of a traditional number nine, that means Richarlison could revert to his best position out wide, leaving Theo Wallcot and Bernard to fight it out for the right-winger role.
Even if that was not to occur, Bernard has another man hot on his heels: Ademola Lookman. The 21-year-old has slowly become more involved as the season has progressed, despite him arguably deserving of more game time as he certainly showed what he can do when trusted at RB Leipzig last season.
As well as Bernard, Lookman netted in the FA Cup last weekend, displaying a very promising and forward-thinking performance, so in order for the Brazillian to keep his place, he will have to step up his game.
If not, Bernard could face some time on the bench with Lookman eager for more opportunities and the possibility of a new forward coming to Goodison Park.
