Big boost emerges for Everton ahead of Burnley clash

Everton supporters have been pretty downbeat in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side’s miserable Premier League away form continue with a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Watford last weekend.

Sam Allardyce’s men went into their clash with the Hertfordshire-based outfit having won just one of their preceding 13 away league games, in which time they had managed to pick up a mere eight points. And their struggles away from Merseyside continued last time out as a Troy Deeney effort 11 minutes from time was enough to clinch all three points for Javi Gracia’s side, thus moving the Hornets to within a point of ninth place Everton in the Premier League table.

Consequently, there have been many frustrated Evertonians in the Tavern this week, although their mood is likely to be improved by recent comments from manager Allardyce in his pre-Burnley press conference (as per the club’s official Twitter handle), in which he confirmed that Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman are back in the squad for Saturday’s encounter.

33-year-old Baines hasn’t featured for the Toffees in the Premier League since their 4-1 defeat at Southampton back in November after sustaining a calf problem in that match, thus missing their last 15 league games.

And while Republic of Ireland international Coleman has returned to the side following his horrific leg break while on international duty back in March 2017, he did miss last week’s defeat at Watford due to a thigh injury.

However, Allardyce has delivered a big boost in his pre-Burnley press conference by confirming that both are back in the squad for the trip to Turf Moor on Saturday, with the full backs potentially lining up in the same Everton side for the first time this season.

And given how influential the duo have been down the years for the Merseyside outfit, this news is sure to come as a big boost to Allardyce and indeed the club’s supporters as their side go in search of just a second away league win of the season on Saturday.

Landlord’s verdict: It has been little under 11 months since Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman lined up in the same Everton starting eleven, but they could be about to end that lengthy spell on Saturday.

And that’s because manager Sam Allardyce has confirmed that both are in the squad for the trip to Burnley this weekend, with Baines returning for the first time since November, while Coleman has shaken off a thigh problem which kept him out of last week’s defeat at Watford.

And with the Toffees needing some inspiration to improve their woeful away record this term, having this influential duo back in contention is sure to come as a big boost to Everton fans up and down the country.
