‘Can’t beat his passion’ – Everton fans send message to defender amid terrible campaign

Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern have been responding to a tweet from their clubs official account wishing Argentine defender, Ramiro Funes Mori, a happy 27th birthday. Funes Mori joined Everton on deadline day in summer 2015 for a fee of £11.61 million from River Plate and has proven a popular figure. 

Funes Mori became an instant hit on Merseyside as his passionate approach to football won over the fans and despite the fact it’s almost been a whole year since the defender last made an appearance for the Toffees, a substitute appearance in lasts season’s 4-0 win over Hull City on 18th March. The 27-year-old’s most memorable moment in an Everton shirt came during a 4-0 loss to Liverpool, in which he divided opinion after being sent off as he defiantly grabbed the Everton badge on his shirt whilst walking off the pitch having been given his marching orders.

The Argentine has made 63 appearances for Everton in his three years at the club and fans have made it clear that they want to see their passionate defender back at Goodison Park as soon as possible, as they hope to turn what has so far been an abysmal season around. Sam Allardyce will be hoping he can prove doubters wrong and finish the season in a Europa League position.
